You see private investigators in movies, and they’re always wearing trench coats and lurking outside someone’s home with binoculars. However, not every day looks like this, nor is any day exactly like that. This is a part of our job that you don’t see on TV. It’s a vital aspect when we receive information from the surveillance manager about the assignment, though. We then learn the specifics of the case as well as the client’s objectives.
No Two Days Are Alike
Because we offer such a variety of services and every case is different, every day in the life of a PATRIOT PI is slightly different. Some days we’re at the office in a desk running background checks. The next day we may be following an angry wife’s husband or helping a family to find a missing person. If we had to describe our job using one phrase, it would be — never a dull moment.
Surveillance
Typically, when someone thinks of a private investigator, they think of our surveillance services, either for criminal investigations or domestic matters. However, what you see on TV isn’t real life. While we do have to find an inconspicuous spot to park our car and watch homes, it’s not as action-packed as depicted in movies. We scope out the area first and find a place where we’ll blend in or can hide.
The next part consists of watching the area. We often sit for hours watching to see who enters and exits or to catch an individual performing tasks they couldn’t if they legitimately had an injury. During this time, we can’t take our focus off the situation. That means we can’t text, nap, read a book, play a phone game, etc.
What you see in the movies with the high-action isn’t reality. Sometimes, we sit for hours without noticing anything. While it’s not for everyone, it can be an exciting part of the job because you never quite know what to expect.
We may need to follow a person on foot or in a vehicle in some cases.
Criminal Investigations
Besides our surveillance services, we also perform criminal investigations. Some may believe this is the exciting part of our job. This is when we’re searching for evidence. For instance, let’s say the cops didn’t find any signs of forced entry. The homeowners may hire us to search the premises as a second opinion if they adamantly believe someone broke in. Additionally, we can assist with retail theft cases.
Conducting Background Checks
Conducting background checks is sometimes part of our day. These are in-house days when we perform research and find information for employers, etc. We find information about the individual’s criminal history. With a level two criminal background check, we use a fingerprint-based search.
Executive Protection
With executive protection, our Davie private investigators follow a high-profile individual and basically act as security. We observe the surroundings for any imminent danger. Then, our Davie investigators act to protect the individual.
